If you want to try a fun app, then look into #whoBIRD on #fdroid (or in my case - #droidify coz its pretty)

It let's you capture and log the birds you hear around you. It shows pictures of the birds, in fact its like a kinda #nature version of Pokemon GO

#foss and #opensource like this are just so incredible to me. Such a unique offering I'd never look for, but stumbled across.

Its clean, easy to use, and above all FUN. I love this, and I promise you will too, #fossify

@flwwhtrbt how perfect! Just this morning I heard a bird with such a unique sound I had never heard before and I had no idea how to go about figuring it out. I'm so excited to try this!

@vernilla

It's amazing!
I'm traveling at the moment, and its so satisfying 'capturing' these exotic (to me anyway) birds in the little log it has.

It is dependent on your phone's microphone - the distance you'll need to be. But I've had zero troubles. Enjoy it!

@flwwhtrbt I'm gonna use this there is a reserve near me and a park in about the opposite direction, bunch of cool birds always pop up from time to time + helps I'm in new zealand lol
@flwwhtrbt So I used the app this morning and it picked up quite a few birds, went to the reserve for a lil bit, didn't see the birds but definitely heard them, found out what the hooing bird I hear a lot, apparently it's a spotted dove, a lot of mynas, they are everywhere and super loud lol, heard a silvereye and then decided to head back and the app picked up a sacred kingfisher so that's cool! Then on the way back two houses down from mine there were a few goldfinch. I'm going to try the park later today and see what the app picks up, I know there a peacock near the park though I have no clue if they normally make noise lol

@f03n1x

Yesssssss!!

Its so fun, isn't it?
It makes me more aware of the little bird sounds I guess I...unconsciously filter out typically?

If I hold my phone out to 'listen' then I pay more attention.
Its a nice little moment.

I hope you keep finding more! And your location looks BEAUTIFUL, what a spot for walks!!!

@flwwhtrbt hah yeah me and my bro used to go running here, it's a pretty nice place, I tend to go running around the park though it's kinda like 2 parks or I guess one big one cut in half, either way it's great for the length, one side is mostly sport fields the other is more forest-like, lots of interesting ducks and a bunch of swans and stuff. I should definitely go to that reserve more it's a lot closer (basically down the road). I was looking for a photo of some of the ducks but it's been awhile.
@flwwhtrbt I went for another walk but this time back at the reserve, I guess I went at the perfect time yesterday because today the circadas were so loud the app couldn't pick up any bird noises. Saw a couple birds though, last picture you have to zoom in, it's a keruru, a funny bird that gets drunk off fermented fruit lol and sometimes falls out of trees

@f03n1x

:(

I was hoping for a peacock logged on your walk!!!!!

(Cicadas reminds me of when they're going crazy in Tokyo. Cicadas and crows are SO loud there, esp in Shinjuku I found)

@flwwhtrbt I'll go for a walk to the park today, see if I spot one, I guess for now here is a cropped picture I took a little while ago. I don't think there are too many cicadas near the park at least where I see these guys

Oh man the cicadas were so loud I did record a lil on my phone but doesn't do it justice lol

@flwwhtrbt Well no peacocks today, have this consolation prize is this picture of two paradise ducks and a swaphen
