What’s your favorite streaming platform?

@stux

Was on torrentfreak and clicked on the link to piratbay. Got this result:
"The Oslo District Court has ruled that Telenor shall block access to the website you are searching for."

They've done you a favour: This is your motivation to normalise using an always-on #VPN.

@Nangpa

@bignose

You mean motivation to buy an annual subscription to VPN services 🙄

Yes, it sucks that this is now effectively an added cost of using the internet safely.

So I consider *that* motivation to make the internet safe again. Tear down mass-surveillance laws and erect robust privacy-protection laws.

On one hand... yeah, it's probably going to be one of those things you'll need forever, here on out.

On the other hand... the price for my VPN has stayed stable through several streaming platform price increases, to the point where my VPN subscription fee is now cheaper than most streaming platform memberships.

Personally, I'd say that makes it a price worth paying.

@Nangpa @stux IIRC theydo this by changing their DNS. Just update what DNS your browser uses (e.g. to Mozilla's or to Google's (IIRC) 8.8.8.8), and you can access the blocked sites just fine.
@stux a full ARR stack!
@stux Of course, my Transmission server only hosts free and open source software (Linux Mint, LibreOffice, GIMP, etc) and public domain media (chiefly books published prior to 1930, but also later US government publications that are by their nature without copyright).

@stux

Kanopy and Hoopla, no ads and free from my library

@stux My favorite streaming platform? The web!

People have published some great art to their own sites!

@stux
I tried these streaming services and OMG they work so much better than the regular ones....
@stux I'm sure after the past few days of BS from Trump and his small brain tactics of using tariffs many feel less guilty downloading from these platforms.
@stux I don't stream. I torrent. Then watch it once it's finished downloading.
@stux As a Canadian in what appears to be a trade war, I approve of this message.
@stux Aqui no Brasil temos o Eppi Cinema, uma assinatura e temos acesso a absolutamente tudo! 😁

@stux

Shout-out to Dropout Media.

@stux
I've gone with the real -debrid and stremio combination

@stux Unironically YouTube, with coding, biking, science, art, and fitness channels.

I follow a bunch of coding channels like Fireship, Dreams of Code, @thelinuxEXP, @geerlingguy, No Biolerplate, Vimjoyer, Let's get Rusty, CodeAesthetic, etc.

For science my favorites are Kurzgesagt, Veritasium, Vsauce, Tom Scott, SmarterEveryDay, CdeCiencia, QuantumFracture, El Robot de Platón, Date un Vlog, and CienciaDeSofa.

I could continue this list with biking and so on but there's a character limit 😅

@stux Yes, I don't consume mainstream shows too much aside from watching Netflix (and Torrent+ when something is not in the catalog) occasionally with my family.
@Gabriel @stux @thelinuxEXP @geerlingguy I watch a lot of documentaries in various languages to get work on hearing comprehension. Det stora kriget was a nice multi part documentary about the first world war in at least 4 languages (Swedish, German, England and Russian)
@stux Paying for things I enjoy so they make more?
@stux
Wait... some of y'all are getting Torrent+?
I didn't even know there was an upgrade option.
@stux i'll pick torrent, thanks
.@stux There are still many people on eMule/aMule!
