If you're not convinced of the insidious & pervasive influence of the financial services sector on UK politics, here's a bit more evidence of how they operate.

Get ex-personnel to become MPs (or take up advisory roles), brief them on what the City needs, and then sit back while they seek to influence governance via whatever means come to hand....

the UK *does* have an industrial strategy, but it is one shaped by, and focussed on, financial services!

@ChrisMayLA6 I was on the London Underground once when the person sitting next to me was flicking through a A4 landscape document headed "The *insert name of large management consultant* Rolodex". (Rolodex is probably a trademark). Every page was a table, with the left hand column being a list of the great and good in British society. The other columns had headings like "was at school with", "friend of", "worked with". The grid was filled with names, presumably employees of the consultants.
