Pulling out a #Quilting project I started a couple of years ago, messed up, and shelved out of despair. This is a kit called Tuxedo Tales, with a cat-of-the-month theme. January is in the top left of this picture. July is where I messed up - I put the transfer paper on the wrong side of the fabric and ruined all of the leaf pieces. I think I can use scraps from the border sashing later to fix it. Finished the appliqué of the last two blocks, and am now working on embroidered details. #FediCrafts
Other than the July block, the embroidery is done! ..... okay, I also have to whip stitch everything down, which if I had been smart, I would have done first. #Quilting #TuxedoCats
I'm in the way less exciting cutting and piecing stage now. But I bought new rulers and a nifty retractable chalk pencil, so it's going much faster and more easily than on previous quilts I've made, so there's still something fun happening. (Excuse the poorly lit photo, my living room lights are pretty bad.) #Quilting #FediCrafts

My quilt project took a slight detour because my sewing machine broke! I now have a fancy schmancy new one that sews soooo smooth and quiet. I was actually able to do chain piecing for the first time because I trusted the fees dogs not to jam. What a concept!

My flying geese blocks came out pretty wonky. I didn't do a very good job cutting the pieces. Once I had a strip of fabric, subcutting was easy, but getting the first width-of-fabric strip was tricky for me.

I'm amazed that the flying geese look less wonky in the context of the full quilt top. My eye is drawn to the cat blocks more than the geese strips. I've only attached two rows so far, so let's see how it progresses.

Assembly goes so quickly! I'm so happy with how the seam lines matched up, even with the wonky points on the flying geese. #Quilting #FediCrafts

Aaaand done. The quilt is actually nearly perfectly square, but somehow the interior got off-kilter so it looks a little diagonal. The straight line quilting I did also highlights how not-aligned the sashing is. But I learned a lot, and this is hands-down the best binding job I've ever done. I'm very pleased with this, and I hope my friend loves it too!

Less than 24 hours after giving the quilt to my friend, and the dream that made me buy the kit in the first place came true.
