Red center diamond piece is depression-era. Like the balance of playfulness and harshness with the red and black

@BenitaSkinner I can't remember when my mom started teaching me to sew on her 1955 Singer 15-91, or whether she started teaching me before or after I started with Home Ec in 7th or 8th grade. And I seem to remember some sewing in Girl Scouts. But I've loved sewing for many many years!
I started quilting in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Before that, it was garment sewing, mostly SCA garb and SF/F costumes. Today, I have a lovely studio and lots of fabric to play with.

Playing with fabric first began for me when I was 6 and given my first needle & spool of thread. 🙏🥰🪡🧵
My love for stitching fabric into a quilt began when I was 13 - this is my first quilt top, which I made my hand.
When did it begin for you?
Community quilt project for #SonomaCounty residents - you don’t even have to know how to sew, just a willingness to be part of collaborative art project and a love of democracy
Very interesting sculptural fiber art on display at the #Mississippi Museum of Art thru mid-June
“Quilt work embarks on a journey of discovery in the art of Coulter Fussell and returns a changed art form with deeper ties, greater resonance and more stories than traditional patterns can hold.”

“Coulter Fussell: The Proving Ground,” is on view through June 14 at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson. It assembles five bodies of work produced by the Water Valley artist since 2020 in the first museum survey of her textile art.
