So, 12yo & I have been sick all weekend & today. Spouse took kiddo to the doctor this morning.

She has flu A. 😫

Her dr. prescribed Tamiflu. I don't feel bad enough to have flu, but we've let my dr. know what's going on, so I might get the same prescription.

In the meantime, spouse was on his way back to work -- when his supervisor texted him to say, "Take the rest of the day and stay home tomorrow. Take care of your girls, and don't get sick."

THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE Y'ALL

When people are sick or have severe contagious illness in the house, they need to stay home WITHOUT FINANCIAL PENALTY. Supervisors, managers, and CEOs MUST make this standard procedure. This is how we minimize the spread of disease and take care of people.

Of course, if the workers owned the means of production and were actually paid the value of their labor, sending someone home without penalty to prevent the spread of illness wouldn't even be a question.

Well, kiddo and I both have flu. Spouse has a slight cough but no other symptoms. All three of us are on Tamiflu. Hope it kicks in soon for 12yo and me. I'm not too bad off, but she's utterly miserable.

And yes, she and I both had our flu shots back in October. As @mcnado points out, this year's vaccine targets a strain that isn't going around as widely as the one everybody's coming down with.

@[email protected] @[email protected] the influenza vaccine has an efficacy ranging around 30-70%, and this year is on the low end of that unfortunately. They take samples from strains circulating on the other side of the world, take a guess about which ones are going to be a problem here in 6-9 months, and make a vaccine covering a few strains of A and usually 1 or 2 strains of B. The match can be decent or quite bad.
