Ah shit I'd forgotten about Victorian baby farming. Wherein women who couldn't or didn't want to take care of babies they had, because no contraception, would pay someone to take care of them instead. And when I say "take care of" I do mean neglect, starve or straight up murder them, so they could take in more babies. Baby farming.

Sure fucking hope that doesn't pop up again as a practice as some absolute bastards try to return the US into whatever fever dream of better old times they think they want!

And now that I got that thought out of my head, I hope you only clicked responsibly, and I'm going to try to sleep so I can return to less harrowing topics tomorrow.
@sinituulia I have the bad feeling that if that's the worst it gets, we might be getting off easy. ☹️
@sinituulia Dorothy Leigh Sayers and her son...

@halla @sinituulia

That son was at least brought up by some family members ... is it known, how bad he was treated at his foster home?

Most detailed I've found https://shedunnitshow.com/dorothyssecrettranscript/

@sinituulia I've read an anthropology book called Mother Nature in the past, and it goes into this and many other topics in detail. it spends more pages on insects and animals, but eventually gets to humans.
It's about motherhood in general, and how what we call birth control, on a different stages of development, is always a part of it. Wasps have better control in the area than we ever had.
@sinituulia
That reminds me how husband poisoning, sorry, calming advertising lessened when divorce became more attainable.
@laumapret That "He had it coming" song from the musical Chicago has started up in my head again...
@sinituulia
Hmm, I watched Chicago (movie)... idk, 20 years ago? Maybe it is worth rewatching, might ring differently!
@laumapret I liked it, it doesn't really have much that would have aged badly, and it's visually quite gorgeous. Musicals are not always my thing, but that one I did enjoy. Jazz!
