@leahmcelrath.bsky.social Maybe we should stop using the label "Antifa"
There are people who don't know what "Antifa" is, they think it's just another mob with a weird name causing problems
I had to explain Antifa to my sister, she had no idea what it meant
Call it what it is, "Anti Fascist"
Not "Antifa", spell it out, shove it in people's faces, make them understand what it means
No one can misunderstand what "Anti Fascist" means
And they know what those who oppose an "Anti Fascist" are

The Nazis called the the resistance "bandits"
If terrorists was a thing then, thats the term they would use.
In the same way the invading forces of putin's autocratic empire convict the legitimate defenders of Ukraine of "terrorism", fighting according to Geneva convention on the territory of their sovereign democratic state.
It's a term that short circuits reasoning.
@staringatclouds @leahmcelrath.bsky.social much like "woke," most people using the word lately are calling other people it, especially those against it. I haven't heard anyone saying "I'm Antifa" or "hey fellow Antifa what's up" in years especially unironically.
But to your point, "I'm against Nazis and MAGA idiots" is a little more common sense and join-uppable
@staringatclouds @leahmcelrath.bsky.social Antifa originated as ad-hoc security forces for protests (mostly in the PNW.) Much like the roving first-aid crews, they were volunteers who were prepared to get physical if the protest got descended on by right-wing agitators (like the Proud Boys) looking for a fight.
Unsurprisingly, they got labeled violent thugs by the fash who were mad at people fighting back.

Little lesson my folks taught me without any words in March of 1966 when we arrived at the Mediterranean at Narbonne Plage, and Dad looked left, towards Italy, then right, toward Spain, then at Maggie with raised eyebrow, at which they both nodded and we turned left. He later fessed up that he didn't relish going to the land of Franco. He also didn't include Germany in that itinerary.
