If you're not already in the habit, do your brain a favor and make something this week. Do something creative; something constructive. In whatever medium holds an interest for you. Even if it's small. In fact, especially if it's small.

Sketch out a couple panels of the comic you've always wanted to make. Write a scene of your novel or play. Crochet one granny square. Make pasta. Bake bread. Put some html files on a webserver.

And while you're at it: drink water, have a shower, take a walk, and get some sleep. Do the things that nourish you. Because, whatever else we are, humans are animals. Your brain and your body are amping each other up and just drenching each other in stress hormones. It's dark and cold, and there are monsters out there, somewhere. Animals don't handle that well. So show your body that it's warm and safe. And that there are still things you can control. You'll feel better. And then you can think clearly. And THEN, you can look ahead.

@jenniferplusplus that's what I've been trying to do! Was in a funk at the end of last year, so started building Endotracker to scratch an itch: https://hachyderm.io/@thisismissem/113864640252438725

Attached: 1 image Here's a teaser of a little thing I've been building in my spare time. I'm calling it Endotracker. It's a little webapp for tracking your endocrinology lab work over time :flag_transgender: I'm not finished building it yet, but it's near enough that it's open sourced: https://github.com/ThisIsMissEm/endotracker/ (note: normally it'd show you an empty dashboard, but my install already has some data)

@jenniferplusplus

Very very good points. I shared it, go look at this post. And then make sumpin'

@jenniferplusplus
Oh I got that down, I'm in trade school for HVAC and troubleshooted a furnace today. Might not sound like a lot, but it was super fun for me.
@Cloudy0213 you contributed to someone else's house staying warm then! That surely counts double! @jenniferplusplus

I feel like there's a lot of people who could be creative but aren't because they work highly stressful jobs and by the time their shifts end, they're too tired to do anything creative. Too many people live solely to work. I call that slavery.
@jenniferplusplus @didathingclub #DidAThingClub I'm tagging the group because I think you might all enjoy what JenniferPlusPlus has to say in the post I'm responding to here.
@jenniferplusplus Thank you for this suggestion. This is one way I stay calm right now. After a long day of work and reading all the stuff on social media, a few rows of knitting is usually enough to calm my brain. Plus, I know I am making somethng useful and pretty for a friend. Planning my next two smallish things--this blanket is a large project for me. :)

@jenniferplusplus

Borrowing some of these words for my journal; I could stand to read them more often :)

@amras aww, I love this πŸ₯°
@jenniferplusplus BTW, finished one blanket, started on a different kind of blanket just for me. Smallish dishcloth will go on another set of needles, one that when it's done looks like a picture of a cat, because cats are awesome!
