Right now I'm torn between self hosting my mails again and not.
The idea of having full control over my mails is nice - and I know that once everything is up, the maintenance is doable - however there is a second side to the mail server - the client.
How can one be sure of that?
Especially with all the AI nonsense - you have no idea where your mails go.
Thunderbird migh be a solution - but there is no iOS version of that right now - so what to do...

@armin I'll tell you something that I've said countless time, I know: email and password manager are 2 things that I'll never self host because are too critical. What if your email server goes down while you're on vacation on the other side of the world and you can't even receive the boarding pass because it goes into your email? Or you're in a particular period where you don't have any free time?
I've abandoned Gmail in favor of ProtonMail (paid, with my domain) long time ago.
Just my 2 cents
@apex I can understand that.
But I'll be honest - at least with my passwords I would never trust a provider other than myself.
Regarding mails - I’m using ProtonMail as well and have all possible feature they offer (Visionary account) - however I'm still limited in features to what they offer - not what's possible.
@armin about the password manager, I'm kinda with you, except that BitWarden is open source and vetted by external company.
About email, well, ProtonMail isn't the best, I know.
@apex @armin for ULTRA critical stuff I use my normal email with forwarding to my domain, everything else can still be accessed even if the email is down (and I've tested this, I had a surprise at Christmas where my #ms01 died after a power loss šŸ§™ā€ā™‚ļø)
