Wanna know why "modern AAA" games are basically cash shops these days?

Because triple A game studios are now getting close to spending a BILLION dollar on 1 single game to develop

70 bucks for a game simply isn't enough to earn it back

I'm not making this up.. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War budget was..

US $700 million

Glad I'm an indie dev who gives games away for free without this bs

@stux much of those costs go to a-list actors for their likenesses and motion capture, and their voices. then likely a lot more goes out the door to licensing certain brands so they can be in the game too. then if there are consoles in play, those console companies (sony/microsoft etc) they want their pound of flesh too
@Viss Oh absolutely! But this is getting out of hand
@stux undoubtedly, yeah
@Viss Esp with fails like Concord recently 😮 If they're not re-using it, it's all wasted..

@stux i think the gaming industry is taking its cues from shit like the discovery/warner bros merger - where they literally wrote off ENTIRE SHOWS that had not premiered yet so they could get a break on their taxes.

the artists were super fucking pissed too - they told folks to pirate their show because otherwise there was no way for anybody to watch the stuff they spent years on.

its bonkers
