Reminder to all feminists

If you accept trans people being defined by their reproductive role...
Then men can define all woman by their reproductive role

If you accept that trans teenagers are too young to make decisions about their bodies...
Then men can decide teenage girls are too young to make decisions about their bodies

If you accept medical gatekeeping of trans people's access to hormones...
Then doctors can restrict any woman's access to HRT and birth control

If you accept stripping trans people of legal protections...
Then men can strip women of legal protections

This is the truth of "trans rights are human rights"
Regardless of your personal feelings on whether trans people are "really" the gender they say they are, the exact same human rights protecting us also underlie women's liberation-- bodily autonomy, dignity, equality of opportunity, and protection from harm.
And so many men are desperate for those rights to disappear.

The way this is going this could be my first ever Fedi post with a boost count in four figures! I'm amazed and honoured, thank you everyone who's passed this around.
Four figures hit! 😲
"'Women' is a banned word": Trump uses trans panic to strip rights from all women

Under the guise of "protecting women," the military, schools, and labs are forced to take women's safety away

@Tattie :/ So horrible, what's happening in tha USA right now. I too knew this sort of thing was coming, what with the attacks on DEI and trans rights, but yeah that was pretty fast.
@Tattie
I think the cis know this. My mother is an open anti-feminist and transphobe.

@halotroop2288 then she has picked her side. But there are a vast amount of cis women, especially in the UK, who think of themselves as feminist but "don't know what to think" about trans rights.

If they don't figure it out soon, they'll be scratching their heads as to how they lost their rights, when all they did was stay silent as the forces of fascism targeted their political dialogue at trans people.

@Tattie @halotroop2288
Many of us know and are supportive.
Unfortunately I've met many women that don't get that we're on the same side.
@Sarahw and not only the same side in an allyship way but literally the same target.
Like, some people might be scratching their heads about how "childless cat ladies" suddenly became a fascist talking point, but I'm not in the least surprised, because it leads on directly from their "what is a woman?" attack on trans women. Because if women are defined by their ability to bear children, as the fascists want, then women without children are without value or validity.
@halotroop2288
@Tattie pithy and powerful. Thank you for writing this.

I agree with everything you say. But I do have a footnote to add, for those in the cheap seats ...

@Tattie
> so many men are desperate for those rights to disappear

So many women are too. I know some genuine feminists who have been pulled into the orbit of anti-trans discourse. But plenty of the women involved, like the men, are anti-feminists, using feminist-ish arguments when it suits their PR purposes.

Patriarchy is not a men vs women thing. It's an authoritarian vs. libertine thing.

Thanks to Emma Goldman's writing on the subject, I have a basic understanding of this.

@Tattie "Nooo...", they cry.

@Tattie

Reminder to all feminists: if you deny that trans women are women, you aren't a #feminist.

@miriamrobern

@Tattie It seems like it should be intuitively obvious and uncontroversial, but all fights for bodily autonomy and self-determination are the same fight.
@bob_zim "gender critical" feminists trying to pick and choose whose rights to pull out of the bodily autonomy house of cards.
@Tattie the targeting of trans people is a tactic to roll back women’s rights. I’ve been screaming this for years. So glad to encounter someone else who sees what’s happening and calls it out! Thank you!
@Jay @Tattie ALL of the actions are meant to roll back any and all civil rights.
@EndicottAuthor @Tattie of course they are. The original post, however, was addressed to feminists, and we (particularly white women feminists) have a terrible record on intersectionality with trans, indigenous, BIPOC, and non-binary feminists. I’ve felt like a voice in the wilderness for at least a decade. Hearing someone else say it out loud was a huge relief. And I devoutly pray it happens more!
@Tattie Thank you for writing down that clearly, what so far was an opinion, a feeling for me. These points will help me a lot to validate opinions and to argue in the future.
@Tattie Reminder to all transsexuals: transhumanism must not be restricted to gender identity. Transhuman rights are human rights.
@Tattie putting things together in a small text, and yet retaining the power and impact of a 20 page well structured argument is a skill, and this is perfect! 💯
@mavu thank you! That's really kind. 😊
