Agh 😡

@samuele963 sent me the timetables for the inaugural Gorizia 🇮🇹 - Nova Gorica 🇸🇮 trains on 8 Feb

There's no sensible way to get there other than with Interrail, and that's €212 for a 4 day pass (and I need to add reservation fees, and accommodation)

And while I welcome this new #CrossBorderRail service, I can't justify that much for the launch of a train that's going to be 2x a day

In my future life when I am rich* the first thing I will do is buy myself continuous Interrail pass lasting the whole year 🙂

* - not happening

@jon Just buy four 3 months Interrail discount passes every end of November and make a crowdfunding marathon of it. 😅
@wrzlbrnft “I don't know what I am going to use this for, but there will be something, so pleasefund it!" It'll be a winner 🙂
@jon We know what we already got and we (think we) know what's your main intention. 😃
@wrzlbrnft There aren't many more borders to visit!
@jon But then you won’t need it any more as you can just have your assistant buy last minute full price first class tickets.

@jon First thing I'm doing is buying my own ICE 3neo, so that all my international journeys can have a top-quality comfortable train on them.

I can dream big, right?

@gravitystorm @jon Instead of a house you could have a train?
@gravitystorm @jon probably cheaper than buying a year’s worth of tickets 🤪😁
@jon Yeah it's a real shame 😦
If it helps, I can offer accomodation at my place. But those ticket prices are such a pain...
@samuele963 Thanks! Slovenian side I know some people too. But it's mostly the trains that are damned expensive (not least as I'd have to travel to Venezia on a Friday)
@jon Yeah... if you're ok with suffering, any luck with Flixbus perhaps?
@samuele963 No. I am not *that* keen to go to the launch! 🙂
@samuele963 (the only way might be to tag this onto the Interrail for my #CrossChannelRail project in March - were I to get a 2 month pass)

@jon Aaah, of course, yeah. Can combine it with other cross-border lines too if there are any you're missing in the area

Should be a good year for railway news, I'm personally very excited for the Koralmbahn since it'll make it possible to get to Graz as a day trip even from here!

@jon I'm thinking of making the trip and finally seeing Venice for an evening/morning along the way in the off-season
@mattfullerton and Gorizia itself is really nice - it’s worth a day there if you’ve never been!
@jon So you recommend the Italian side over the Slovenian side?
@mattfullerton there’s more on the Italian side. It’s bigger. If you want to make a tour out of it though, the Nova Gorica - Jesenice rail line is superb.
@jon Yes, that's exactly the idea. Read about it in Jaroslav Rudiš' book.
@mattfullerton Tauernbahn is closed though I think, so Villach back to München might be a bit of a pain. Via Lienz - Franzenfeste is nice, but might be too slow.
@jon I'll be all right, can cope with the bus, the trip to Villach isn't the exciting part
@jon I live just north of the Alps and have been to Italy, drumroll... once, for work, with a day tagged on in Rome. Shameful really...
