Dystopia is when you get run over and shot by a right-wing terrorist.
Hellscape is when you're run over and shot and still expected to show up for work.

@LilahTovMoon
Do you happen to have the source link for this?
EDIT: NVM I found one https://www.msn.com/en-us/public-safety-and-emergencies/health-and-safety-alerts/amazon-denies-new-orleans-truck-attack-victim-s-request-for-leave-of-absence-report/ar-AA1wV19t
It was her fault - "… but an Amazon spokesperson told Newsweek that she had mistakenly requested the wrong type of leave."
As if being run over, and shot, is an excuse for not jumping correctly through the corporate paperwork hoops 🤪
Maybe she requested "run over, and shot" leave, instead of "run over, and shot in the foot" leave?
@isol @LilahTovMoon Golly, I remember when I had just given birth to my son and had to figure out my time reporting for parental leave myself, stringing together three different types of leave. I was sleep-deprived and taking care of a newborn but they could not have someone in HR do this for me.
I thought *that* was bad!
@LilahTovMoon public shaming still works sometimes.

@LilahTovMoon for the record, Amazon always manages to make it somebody else's fault when they fuck shit up.
This is the same company that, when their delivery assholes leave things on the concrete instead of where I told them, tells ME to update my delivery instructions. No, teach your drivers to read. My actual address-line-2 on every single package is "STUFF GOES ON SMALL BLACK TABLE BY THE DOOR."
@the_turtle @LilahTovMoon this isn't necessarily the drivers fault. It's #Amazon 's for over-working, under-paying, and making them work in dangerous work conditions.
@LilahTovMoon Amazon's attitude to its employees is why I never order from them.
Unionize, folks!
@LilahTovMoon @clifff Here is a link to the original article with full details on what she experienced. Her name is Alexis Scott-Windham.
FWIW, Amazon has reversed their stance and granted her time off with pay.
@tonymasiello @LilahTovMoon Thanks for sharing a source. Difficult read but informative.
Still sucks Amazon’s default is to deny what a sick/medical leave request and only approving it after getting bad press
@LilahTovMoon America: where 'thoughts & prayers' have a quicker response time than the HR department.
This isn't just dystopia. It's efficiency-maximized horror. The system only cares if you can scan a barcode. If you can't, there's a fresh batch of desperate replacements waiting outside.
The subtext is clear: your suffering is no obstacle. Just a scheduling issue. The machine just grinds down broken cogs till they fit again.
@LilahTovMoon
Amazon said the company had just learned on Friday morning that Scott-Windham had mistakenly requested the wrong type of leave, and the company is making it right.
"We’ve reached out to Ms. Scott-Windham to offer her our full support, including pay, as she recovers from this senseless act of violence," Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a statement. "We wish her a full recovery and look forward to welcoming her back to work once she's able."
Boost with CW: US, violence, injury, capitalism, Amazon
So the owner of Amazon is also the owner of the Washington Post and also an oligarch to Trump - what could possibly go wrong
@LilahTovMoon seriously, WTF?
If employers in Germany did that, they'd be forced to not just pay sick leave but get fined for refusal to accept the notice!
