Carrots! I'll collect these seeds for replanting when they're ready, but there's another patch of self-sown ones that I'll leave to continue the cycle. Once they get to this point, the roots are too woody to eat.

I collected a bunch of wild carrot seeds this year and scattered them about. They grow in ditches and all over so hope they grow where I want em!
@madrobin Hope so! I wonder if wild ones would be more prone to woody roots, though? That said, fresh green carrot tops (avoiding the tougher stems) make a great pesto, blended with olive oil, garlic, almonds and cashew nuts, so you can't lose, really.
@MelissaBenyon I guess you can eat the wild roots, but I’d only do so in an emergency. There are a few poisonous lookalikes.
