Going to Seed
#introduction I'm a generalist gladly busy with a bit of everything, with in mind, hands and heart: #autonomy and #community building.
Here to #escalate.
I work with #food transformation, #plants and #fermentation, and I love #brewing beer and #cooking for a lot of people. Sometimes I share workshops and teachings.
Part of @genopretkbh for 7 years +, supporting sustainability in communities and friendships through #conflict #systems and mediation.
Background in #somatics, #dance, #art #music and #theater. Even as an Awareness person in #techno raves.
I've also been a #massage therapist and #sound healer for some years, and am sharing now community oriented ear #acupuncture treatments with @aabnenaale
I am practicing #plant and #vegetable breeding, #seeds collecting and exchanging with #GoingToSeed. I grow in zone 8.
I like to #fast, #hike, and gather friends around it.
I like #systems and #routines. Convinced fellow and fan of #GTD.
Staring at a #fire is a good medicine. Sustaining the one in my heart and my comrades also. #internationalism makes me melt.
I like weird shit and embracing my inner #weirdo

Last one in this little 6-part series - coriander. I have so much of this in various stages, have planted some, am giving seed away, and grinding in spice grinder. It doesn't grind as fine but smells so much stronger than bought version.

I'm sorry, Silver Beet, your method of going to seed is not very pretty. But it's effective, and achieves lots of self-sowing.

Lettuce! This freckled variety has been self-sowing in the same bed for 4 - 5 years. I was giving my visiting son a vegie garden tour last year and he noticed a particularly huge specimen with several 5 cm thick stems. "That's a *lettuce*?" It's too bitter to eat by this point, but soaking the leaves in a few changes of water over the course of an hour can extend the edible window of maturing lettuces.

Parsley! Self-sown and getting ready to continue the cycle. Lovely pattern to the flowerheads. Third of my six-part series, posting one each day.

Dill! One of the most enthusiastic self-sowers in my garden. I've actually pulled up a lot of it before the seeds fully form, so as not to find myself with a dill farm. Made a dill pesto, but have yet to try it out - frozen for future need.

Carrots! I'll collect these seeds for replanting when they're ready, but there's another patch of self-sown ones that I'll leave to continue the cycle. Once they get to this point, the roots are too woody to eat.

Free and Open-Source Seed (the other #FOSS)

Preparing a big batch of many different seeds to send the first package in one out of hopefully many seed chain letters among #landracing colleagues in the EU. The idea is to send all kinds of seed, take what you want, add in at least as much, and then pass it onto the next one in line. With enough circulation, we should be able to maximize the genetic diversity in the chain package over time. A rolling seed swap by mail. I’m very excited about this and already looking forward to receive it myself somewhere down the line.

Want to get in line for a package too? Sign up in this forum: https://landracegardening.discourse.group/ and tell me your username, then I’ll add you to European seed swap group so you can read the rules before being added to the waiting list.
