It's been two and a half years that mstdn.ca has been a thing.

If you see this, please reshare it and star it. I'm curious about the reach we have.

Consider this a research and proof of concept project!

@chad

I see you from #YQG

@ClintonAnderson Windsor! Awesome!

@chad Naaah..
Windsor is a shithole 🤣🤣🤣

But we need more Canadians, we need more contact between Canadians, here on The Fed Verse or whatever it's called

Cheers eh

@ClintonAnderson everyone can find something to be proud of in their communities.

For us, Edmonton has amazing year-round festivals.

Calgary has the international firework competition and the stampede.

Vancouver and Victoria has the ocean and a nude beach.

Saskatoon has a great "taste of Saskatchewan"

Winnipeg has the Forks.

I think we could find something wonderful in all of our communities!

@chad

Oh for sure

But I don't know how steeped in Regressive, Grifting, CONservative, Ontario politics you are... All the worst parts of it are concentrated here in #WindsorON

What should be a glorious haven, is instead a heap.

Our Bike Advocates gave up. Our Transit Advocates gave up. Our Urbanist Advocates left City Council and are even mostly talking about leaving not just Windsor but Ontario, but Canada all together.

It's exceedingly difficult to be positive in such light, know what I mean?

It's one of the reasons I enjoy Mastodon eh

@ClintonAnderson I'm certainly not associated with any of those regressive groups. We do see it here in Edmonton - particularly the neighbourhood of Dunluce - but the large majority of Edmontonians hear and see how important bike lanes are as the most northern city in the country... ridership is equal to summer ridership.

When it's framed how many real dollars are spent to clear vehicle roadways compared to multimodal lanes, the language changes really quick.

I have thoughts.

@ClintonAnderson Ultimately it's how it's framed.

How many hundreds or thousands of kms of vehicle roadway compared to multimodal roads and lanes, and that - in Edmonton - a separate (smaller) crew clears these multimodal lanes, of course they get cleared faster.

Consider the thousands of kms of vehicle roadway are cleared by the city compared to maybe the hundred km of multimodal path.

When you break it down to dollars and cents, these anti bike lane folks start to get real quiet.

@chad

Are you a Not Just Bikes, The Missing Middle, or Shifter fan?

Just a few of my favourite Cycling/Urbanism podcasts/creators 😁

@ClintonAnderson absolutely. We use our two cars very little in the summer and would use them more in the winter if my partner had better prepared tires on her bike.

We have six breweries within ten minutes biking from us and we love visiting them via bike when we can.

@chad

Look, if you're going to flirt with me like that, I'm going to let you! 🍻

@ClintonAnderson @chad
Clinton, you’ve just pointed me to a new batch of podcasts. Thanks!

@jd @chad

Oh and btw, they're best enjoyed on Nebula

I don't think Shifter is there yet though

City Nerd too 😁

@chad Hello from Finland! 👋
@rolle hei 👋
@chad Hei vaan hei!
@rolle toivottavasti teillä oli ihana joulu!

@rolle one of my favourite vocal groups is from Finland, Rajaton!

I had the honour to sing with them about 12 years ago and it was one of honours of my life.

@chad They are great! Wow, so cool you got to sing with them.

I also like this quite similar a cappella group: https://clubforfive.fi - seen them live as well a couple of times.

Club for Five

Club for Five on Helsingissä vuonna 2000 perustettu suomalainen uuden sukupolven a cappella-lauluyhtye, jonka erikoisuus on instrumentaalinen lähestyminen laulamiseen, ikään kuin ihmisäänellä 'soittaminen'.

Club for five

@rolle there's a cult following for them here in Canada. "Butterfly" is performed very often here. 😆

I think it's the percussive nature of the music. Mita kaitatat kivonen and Kaipaava is also really popular.

I'll check out Club for Five!!

@rolle THAT BASS SINGER!

You just can't fake that into a mic. HOLY SHIT.

I don't know anyone on this side of the Atlantic that could pull that off. 🤯

You've got something real special over there that I'm so envious of. What was his lowest note there? a Gb? I don't have my piano close.

@rolle there's one fellow that I sang with that might be able to do it but not as casually - and now he sings professionally in the EU. David McCune.

That's one hell of a flex as a basso profundo.

@chad Yeah, Tuukka Haapaniemi's bass voice is DEEP! I'm not sure what the lowest is. And that was live on national TV btw 😅

@rolle that's one hell of a flex as a basso profundo. That's so rare. So rare. At least on this side of the pond.

Finnish music is next level. Seriously. It's so wonderful to listen to - the consonants make are so percussive and are so satisfying.

It's your music and Estonian vocal arts that really suck me in. A trip out there is a bucket list thing for me.

@rolle @chad sounds a lot/bit like Leonard Cohen
@chad Oli, lähinnä kotona olemista 👍 Toivottavasti myös teillä.
@rolle paljon matkoja, mutta normaalia meille!
@chad Amusing, I checked out mstdn.ca and thought it meant mstdn.california? Well I saw you post anyway.
@chad Thank you for being welcoming Chad.
@chad your post is clearly visible from the south-west of Germany!

@chad Hello from Waterloo, Ontario!

I moved to #mstdnca from mastodon.social during the big Twitter migration in late 2022. I had joined mastodon.social in the Spring of that year when Musk had started executing his mission to buy Twitter. I like it here!

@chad hello from KW!
@crabbypup Kuwait? Incredible. Take good care.
@chad Kitchener-Waterloo 😂 I guess it's usually stylized as K-W.

@crabbypup LMAO. I looked up country code.

Great to see you!~

@chad Your post has traveled down the Yellowhead without any issue. chuckle
@chad
Alaaf us Kölle.🖖 🥳
@elala Köln sieht fantastisch aus!
@chad Hello from Berlin! I started following you at some point when my oldest daughter spent a year in Alberta. Nice way to stay in touch with things over there. So thanks for that! 🙂
@amicklei VERY COOL. Congrats on following what is often a shit show. 😂
@chad Yeah, sorry for that. Unfortunately we have similar issues in german and european policy making. I find following what is going on in Alberta alongside german newspapers helps putting things in perspective.
Apart from that all my children are into choir singing. So also nice to read about that. 🙂
@chad Hello from Oslo 🇳🇴
@chad i remember you being the first other edmontonian i met on fedi!
@unnamedau there's DOZENS of us now!
@chad You reached me in the afterlife, comrade.
@oldjoestalin the Fediverse has no bounds.
@chad Just like my resentment, comrade.

@chad Hi Chad, has #bonkwave reached your instance yet?

@chad Have a boost from the UK :)

@chad I'm still in the discovery, experimenting and learning phase after starting with having an accountant and the app on my smartphone. A while back I read about @Mastodon and I'm really curious about this new platform for me. One of the many social media platforms I use so keeping up is a challenge!

But it is not for nothing that I am a digital literacy coach with a passion for people, behavior, ICT, innovation and lifelong learning!

@chad small single-user/multi-account instance in Aus 🇦🇺🇨🇦
@europlus one day I'll get down there. I have to check out those Drop Bears.

@chad Hello! I'm on this instance because it was started by someone I followed on Twitter and a bunch of us gamedev-twitter peeps followed him. But I'm in the suburbs of Montréal, Québec.

I also enjoyed your conversations with people in this thread. You seem very sociable!

As a fan of Nightwish and the demoscene (especially Future Crew, a finnish group), I'll be listening to those finnish acapella groups, perhaps it'll be some more things from Finland I like!
