Congratulations to Elon Musk for being the first American businessman to be mentioned as a threat to German democracy.

Today, the German President Steinmeier formally announced the coming parliamentary elections with a speech in which he expressed the importance of fairness and transparency in the election process, explicitly stating that foreign influence, as seen on the social media platform X, is a danger to democracy.

@randahl I wouldn't think of Musk being the first businessman. I think Zuckerberg preceeded him. But they're equally threatening because of their reach and missing moderation.
@Brokar @randahl no moderation is one thing, but Musk actively influences what is seen on his network and who can talk. He also deleted data from the rightwing extremist who murdered people in Magdeburg with a car, to obfuscate the issue and use it to attack foreigners.

@prefec2

Believe me, if i could block X and Meta in the EU or at least Germany i wouldn't hesitate for a second.
Well, Musk bought Twitter, now he can do with it whatever he wants. And if people are still that stupid to stay on that platform, that's on them.

@randahl

@Brokar @randahl maybe we need a good hack that deletes all data on X and all backups in case they have some. Of course that would be illegal and I will not give anyone any ideas.

@prefec2

People just need to stop using it. It will vanish like many other former social media platforms .. VZ, ICQ etc.

@randahl

@prefec2 @Brokar @randahl Who needs a hack and destroyed backups? Offer all X employees a respectable, decently paid job. And then start a flame war. Fight fire with fire …
