Tip to combat washing-machine stink. We run a load of bedding on 90°C every two weeks to kill all bacteria. Works excellent. Saves on detergent but costs more electricity
John Siracusa@ArjanBos Sadly, our washing machine scum is hardy enough to survive that. We even used special “machine cleaner” products that you run through the machine periodically without any clothes in it. It helps, but it does not eliminate the problem.
Mike@siracusa @ArjanBos the appropriate technology to combat this is just leaving the door open a crack. My sister-in-law has a special device to facilitate this, but over X-mas I noted that my mom's washer (a Whirlpool I think?) has a special detent in the door opening sequence that holds it open 15 or so degrees. All that said, I'm a top-load sympathizer at heart, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
