Had an interesting conversation about this, and now I gotta ask you people.

Let's assume that we agree that a kink is something sexual.

For something to qualify as being a "kink", does it have to be an _act_ (or action, or inaction), like "getting my feet tickled", or can it also be a thing or person, like "tall people are my kink"?

I'm not looking for factual truth, but for your feelings and personal definition.

@scy For me, the action/vs. concept thing is the difference between kink and fetish. You can have a tall people fetish, but only “sitting on someone's shoulders” is a kink.

@scy
Hmm, would you count a situation, or a power dynamic, as an act or a thing?
And what about a feeling (the sensual or emotional kind), is that an act or a thing?

I'm not sure which option to pick here... intuitively, it feels like many of my kinks are concepts(?) in between them, that could be phrased in both ways.

Slight tendency towards "act", because there are some that definitely only fit that description. Can't think of any own examples that *only* fit the "thing/person" option.

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I tend towards the "act" option.
Yeah, I think I'll choose that one... and leave this here as my thought process of understanding the question.

@flashzelle Yeah I think I shouldn't have written that post with a middle-of-the-night brain.

What I'm most interested in, because it came up in that conversation I'm referring to, is whether something like "tall people are my kink" is an acceptable use of the word "kink". Because my gut says me it's not, but I don't have very good arguments to back it up.
