My phone is littered with corporate crap apps that I'm required to use to check into hotels, get rental cars, look at my bank balance. I hate 'em but enshittification, like wind and rain, has eroded all the other ways I used to be able to do things.

Now all those apps ask me: Do I want to enable AI?

Crap app, you have no idea how much I do not want to enable AI.

I understand power dynamics and the need to pay for groceries, but: If you're a developer, enshittification can only happen with your consent. Those of us who know how to make computers go have disproportionate power. Back in the day, we thought we were making the world better, creating an open web, empowering users. We manifestly have not.

But we still could.

@mikeolson Never has it been so easy for the workers to seize the means of production.
