Ok I decided to post this even though it is not mine, it is my friend's setup.

This is a 16 inch unicycle with a a brake, using a 3D printed brake mount, a self studded tyre and 45mm cranks.

And yes that is snow on the ground because this is clearly the perfect winter setup.

And people claim unicycles are not praticle! Ha… what a joke! 🤣

@ruari that 3d printed brake mount is more cursed than the time someone 3d printed a square taper to isis adapter
@timmy Everything about this setup is wrong. I studded that tyre, with metal screws. The cranks also have plastic shims to make them "sort of" fit.
@ruari how thick did you end up shimming them? i just cut some pop can and am hoping that’s thick enough at .11mm on all sides

@timmy My friend made the current shims we are using. I would have to ask him to be sure.

Nothing about this setup is recommended though. It is all kinds of insanity.

@ruari i’m just realizing that 4 shims is only enough for one crank unless they’re too thick and i need to do 2 of 4 sides
@timmy That said, I would glady try and commute all the way into work like this if it could hold up that long because… well… to turn the question around… why wouldn't I? It is amazing!
@ruari i didn’t expect about a half dozen people to buy 45mm cranks after i did. i really underestimated how many people are into setting up their unicycle wrong
@timmy Why wouldn't well all? This is clearly the direction unicycling should be going and I hope UDC makes some 45s that don't require shims so that we can all experience this amazing concept on a daily basis

@timmy P.S. Not sure if you saw this other thread. I pinged your other acocunt but not sure if you check that

@timmy

This is how we are gonna get the real 45mm cranks! I am asking Roger Davies. 😉

So those figures are basically gain ratios AFAICT. FWIW the 16″ with 45mm cranks in most of those videos would be 4.52 on a chart like that and my pink 20″ with 45mm cranks would be 5.64, for those that want to compare with a setup listed above that they are familiar with: (16×12.7)/45 = 4.515… (20×12.7)/45 = 5.644… Of course just having the same rough gearing is not everything. Tiny wheels and cranks with almost no movement add even more complixity. But yeah a 16″ setup like this is not gr...
