The gathered workers who restored Notre Dame Cathedral.

@Professor_Stevens @sjvn Yeah, lots of “meanwhile…” come to mind when I think of Notre Dame and how quickly rich people’s stuff gets fixed. E.g., the Flint water crisis.

Anyways, it’s a cool photo and I’m empathetically joyful for their achievement.

@Professor_Stevens @sjvn OMG I just heard they spent nearly $1 billion on the renovation. 😳

Notre Dame rebuilt, reverently restored 5 years after world watched French cathedral burn

@com @sjvn

I'm reading closer to US$750 million. But that's just this time. Over its life, the cathedral has consumed the modern equivalent of billions.

Utter proof that "do good works" is complete bullshit.

@sjvn which cost a shit ton of taxpayer money for something most of France doesn't give a shit about.
@paillp @sjvn yeah. What a waste of money. While people starve, some religious figures get a pretty building,
@sjvn We lived in Switzerland in 1980’s, visited original Notre Dame often, as well as many other cathedrals throughout France. Even without fire disasters, the other cathedrals we have photos of are now gleaming white from renewal (in 1980’s they were brown with auto pollution). And now so is Notre Dame.
@sjvn It's not quite on the same level, but my sister was involved in the restoration of Michigan Central Station in Detroit. The results are stunning. These workers have done a wonderful thing.
@sjvn Beautiful. Bravo France!
@sjvn That's pretty sick!
@sjvn those high-viz vests!
