I've read a lot of #Solarpunk / #HopePunk fiction, it's a genre I enjoy, but I realise something I often find lacking in it is conflict - I think solarpunk sometimes gets conflated with #CozyFiction, and while cozy solarpunk like the #MonkAndRobot series is great in its own right I'd like to see more about people resolving differences of opinion.

@afewbugs Yeah, I find I can't really call it #solarPunk without punk. And punk is about conflict, specifically, about fighting for your life against pervasive oppression. (Sorry to be reductionist, words are hard.)

I guess for me the difference in solarPunk and #HopePunk vs. something like #cyberpunk is that...the battle can be won, at least, here, and now. That's so revolutionary at times that it's no wonder it bleeds into hyggeFic (to coin a term).

@afeinman @afewbugs I think I'd argue that the conflict in something like the Monk & Robot books is between the world you're reading about and the world you're reading in and thus the 'Punk' part of the genre name is covered.

Or maybe we should just call it #hopeCore or #solarCore?

@pdcawley @afeinman @afewbugs

In this world coziness and comfort ARE revolutionary when everyone is just trying to get you to hate someone else so you don't realize they're ripping you off

@afeinman @afewbugs “hyggeFic” is a great term

@afeinman @afewbugs
I can't help but hear "It's not solarpunk unless it comes from the Punk region of Portland".

But joking aside, I share your tastes. Have either of you read through our starter campaign? I'm very proud of what kind of conflicts we present in Fully Automated!
