Experimental philosophy in action.

Shouldn't the tortoise have gotten a head start then?
Back in my day, we'd never have gotten away with such sloppy experimental design!
@Thijs_Goverde the hare remembered that at mid-distance.
@Thijs_Goverde @martoiu My issue is more with the species than the headstart. Rabbits did not exist in 6th century BC Greece.

Cheaters, they scared the bunny

@martoiu

"Slow and steady wins the race."

@martoiu But the bunny gets to have a nice resting snooze, which I feel makes it the true winner here
@martoiu Video description for visually impaired people: A hare/bunny and a tortoise are placed on race tracks, among excited shouting from kids and adults watching. The bunny takes the lead, but then stops and waits (despite some onlookers trying to usher it onward), while the tortoise slowly but steadily overtakes it and reaches the finish line first. A kid celebrates.

@martoiu

In the fable it was a hare, not a wabbit. 🤣

@martoiu that poor rabbit is terrified
@martoiu The Chinese have one word (兔子) for "rabbit" and "hare". Comparative linguistics meets philosophy! 😂

This is devastatingly adorable 🥰

@martoiu

@martoiu кролика напугали... Bunny 😱
@martoiu hey, Xeno, have you and Achilles seen this?
@martoiu People scaring a poor rabbit hoping it will run, leave the rabbits alone, dumbasses!
@martoiu Those people should be ashamed of themselves. Thr rabbit is terrified, and the tortoise probably is, too. Way to teach children it’s okay to mistreat animals.
@martoiu

A video of people setting up a simple race between a turtle and a rabbit, while a lot of other people watch, including children. Turtle wins, because rabbit gets distracted midway, possibly scared of loud people or just confused what to do.

@martoiu

In all fairness, Aesop's fable was about the tortoise and the hare---not a rabbit, which is very different from a hare.

I live in Texas where we have 'jack rabbits' which are really 'hares'...and they are VERY fast.

The vid was fun to watch, but we once raised rabbits when I was a kid, so what happened was expected. Watching the excited little kids was as cute as the race...🙂
