This is incredibly disappointing: "Countries fail to reach agreement in UN plastic talks".

Plastic usage is increasing dramatically & we've got to face up to fixing the system we've created. We covered all that and more on a recent Rare Earth:

@helenczerski ...I had a thought...plastic locks up carbon, it can't escape...now we need to lock up plastic!

@helenczerski

The 95 or so countries that do agree on how to take this forward with legally binding limits and reductions should go ahead and create the policies and laws.

The laggards can come to the party later.

But the improvements we would get from the 95 countries are worth pursuing now rather than just staying in discussion paralysis limbo as we are now.

@helenczerski PSA: on mastodon all links, no matter their length, are counted as 23 characters. Please don't use shorteners, they needlessly obfuscate the actual target link (and datamine the traffic).
@helenczerski if the CFC decision was made today, it probably wouldn't be agreed on either
@helenczerski Not surprising, considering the lack of action on climate change.
@helenczerski alternative headline - fossil fuel lobbyists wreck another collective effort to save humanity.

@helenczerski We (not plants, not animals, not earth, we!) all are dying of from fossils made plastics. Why don“t we (and the in the UN plastic talks participating contries are "we") do anything? Is this an "other peoples problem"? Really?

Ok, maybe in some other millions of years we are the "fossile" energy from which the then new plastics are made of, beginning a new cycle...
