You are making my day! ♥️

After sharing my new presentation about information warfare across all platforms, it is clear Mastodon is number one. Among the external viewers…

31 percent are from Mastodon
3 percent are from Bluesky
2 percent are from Facebook
0 percent are from Threads

What you see above is the difference between unhindered interaction, and algorithmic suppression. I am fully convinced, the Threads content algorithm suppresses links to YouTube, to keep users in the fold.

1/2

@randahl bluesky is beating Mastodon... The Mastodon users interface is not user friendly and I won't blame Mastodon... Mastodon has no revenue model and no money to spend on features..
@nemo55 I strongly disagree with that. I use the @ivory app, and it works a lot better than Bluesky. It has statistics built in, it works on iPad, it is more stable, etc., etc.
@randahl @ivory Bluesky is attracting more users than Mastodon. Mastodon faces scaling challenges, has no full-time employees, lacks regular updates and new features, and doesn’t have a revenue model. As a result, Mastodon struggles to compete with X or Threads, leaving Bluesky as the likely contender. 😎

@nemo55 I'm sure there are some things they do better but overall not so sure it's them currently getting a lot of registrations is the result of people being more impressed by the features.

The hype cycle has switched between different platforms constantly and BS just happened to be the one in vogue when Musk did a particularly disgusting series of moves and a lot of people finally took notice. Most of those people never even tried Mastodon.

I also don't think it necessarily lasts.

@randahl

@nemo55 there's also some significant issues with Bluesky. I doubt many users will care about the nonexsistent decentralization much just like they never gave it much though with Xitter but the moderation system is a bit of a dumpster fire over there even though they do have some interesting ideas.
@ikuturso I have both Mastodon and bluesky accounts.. i had an x account... Bluesky feels like more twitter and simplistic users interface.. they have big plans and goals for the future .. I don't know about Mastodon...I recently joined Mastodon..no revenue generation is a big negative for Mastodon...

@nemo55 lack of revenue generation is a negative for you as a user? It means things like no ads, not trying to gather as much information as possible about me, letting people use APIs without trying to lock you in etc. It's a huge plus in my book.

Right now you're not seeing what revenue generation will truly mean for Bluesky because they're still living off the VC money. The day they will have to pay it back is fast approaching.

@ikuturso @nemo55 we are still watching the subsidize the user phase. Once enough people are there and somewhat locked in, then time to bring in advertisers with too good to be true deals.

When both sides are present, enshittify .

It's a really boring business plan
