When Texting Destroyed Social Investment

How did socializing stop being interesting?

I can't really comment much, because #ADHD adds its own layer of exceeding weirdness to the subject of communication.

For one thing, if I say I missed you, then I *really* missed you, because most people just kind of blink out of existence when I stop thinking about them. Object Permanence dysfunction. It's a thing.

@joel Hey! I'm in that book club! I prefer texting as my forms of communication. Less room for misinterpretation. Though I have to say I forget to respond sometimes...

@dm @joel @jefklak @amin @RL_Dane @cinimodev @jp @sheep @heyfluxay @isa @cjerrington @spaceraser @hyde @dmoonfire @thedoctor @twizzay @thumb @OrbitalMartian I get actively anxious with phonecalls, like ice in the stomach, a bit dizzy and a shot of adrenaline when my phone is making the calling noice, sure makes it... interesting.. being on call.

@sotolf @dm @joel

I dislike calling as well, although I've had to make my peace with it with my mom, as texting is now very difficult for her.

I do think we lose a lot with only texting, though. There's a richness of the experience that you don't get with just a text. Sometimes that's very much what you want though, lol.

I get so many spam calls. It's annoying because it makes me just ignore the phone if I don't know the number, and I *can't* do that with the work I do.

@RL_Dane @sotolf @dm hmm my piece is not really about calling vs texting, it's about talking sometimes in person vs constantly updating everyone on what we're up to, regardless of the medium. Kinda idk it wasn't a very planned out sequence of paragraphs xD
@joel @RL_Dane @dm In person I'm on board with, as long as it's possible, my family lives faaaaar away.
@sotolf @RL_Dane @dm understandable, anyway also check the original article this is a response to, it's much better

> Kinda idk it wasn't a very planned out sequence of paragraphs xD

Yeah, I feel you on that. #WritingMonth didn't exactly force me to push out my highest-quality prose.
STILL, the exercise was incredibly worth it, and I'm thankful for the volume, even if it wasn't all superbly crafted.

I am pretty happy with my last one, though. Wait, the previous one. (lol so many blosts!!) The EDC part V: what's on my phone. That took 2-3 hours to research.

@joel I really gotta think about this one. Being hard of hearing, texting has made communication easier for me in many instances. But, a lot of texting and emailing feels like just going through the motions. This is a concept I haven't thought about much, but you have me thinking about a different perspective about communicating with people. Got some deep thinking time ahead lol
@joel @jefklak @amin @dm @RL_Dane @cinimodev @jp @sheep @isa @sotolf @spaceraser @hyde @dmoonfire @thedoctor @twizzay @thumb @OrbitalMartian Wow, the experience of reading a text based conversation has really changed all forms of communication and social situations as well. Both for the good, and bad. Some conversations are better in person, while a simple reply is enough as well. This might warrant my own post!
@joel EVIL because you posted my non-main account
@heyfluxay fixed haha
@joel I forgot I had it, nuked it today to prevent.
