Cycling is ten times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities

Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

@davidho Also, bicycles are far less toxic than electric cars #pollution #transportation #orcas
@impy @davidho have you not ever had coffee at one of those places infested with MAMILs and OMILS? I have even seen reference in the press to the odour of excessive Lycra. And then there is the stamp of rugby boots on pavers from the ridiculous shoes they wear.
@davidho I love my e-bike, I run all kinds of errands and take trips with it that I wouldn’t otherwise. It’s easier to park than a car.

@davidho To be fair, a lot of electric cars, especially Tesla, make their components hard to replace to prevent fixes from being easier for the average person. At least Tesla I know does this. I have heard tell of this on youtube from some people. (using invidio preferably)

Although, they also add unneeded bloatware too and even with all of that not happening, cycling still would probably be 75 times more effective even still I would guess.

Btw, I don't like the idea of self driving cars currently. They shouldn't have them connected to any network to be usable.

That is asking for trouble.

We have enough authoritarian ideals with smart devices already. We don't need cars to be having that power, because then, people gonna die if they get hacked.

Anywho, I veered off on a few things, but yes, ultimately I agree with you.

I would also argue, the rich people are the ones who can make the biggest difference by not using gas guzzlers ESPECIALLY including private planes.

@davidho God, I hate this ableism and "moral superiority" of the cycle lobby.
@anne_twain @davidho I don’t think this is about good or badly behaving people, they exist as pedestrians, cyclist and motorists, its about moving forward and about causing less pollution, we all have to try and do our bit, even if it is use the car less frequently, says a daily 🚴‍♀️ with still regular near misses on the road🤦🏽‍♀️but less frequent than 10 years ago 💪🏽
@anne_twain @davidho is it really ableism if they just don’t think of us at all? /s
@sugarsh0t @davidho Yes, I think so. They assume everyone is as able as they are and admonish us for not being able to do what they do.
@anne_twain @davidho its about the best tool for the job. I live in the Netherlands: cars are still a dominant mode of transport, for better or worse, but local journeys are easier by bike. Need a few bits from the supermarket or shops? hop on the bike. Drop the kids off, probably easier by bike if your cycling to the train station anyway.
@anne_twain @davidho It’s not ableist. My ADHD is severe enough that I can’t drive but I can cycle. My grandmother was the same because of narcolepsy, and a lack of transit or safe cycling infrastructure where she lived meant she was dependent on others her whole life to get to work, the grocery store, etc. Good cycling infra (like in NL) accommodates those who can’t cycle by allowing permitted microcars in bike lanes and having all kinds of accessible bikes. Car-dependent infra is ableist.
@holly Thank you for identifying yourself as someone I should block. Feel free to return the favour.

@davidho

Helsinki public transport bikes: you can use them for 7 months for 35€ (5€ per month). Retired only in November to March due to the icy conditions.

That's how it's done.

@davidho @djm_black But how’s Elon going to become a trillionaire with that? Won’t someone think of the billionaires?
@davidho The second most efficient creature at travelling across land is the kangaroo. The most efficient is a human on a bicycle.
