"Decentralised social media is more than just a technical shift; it's a step toward restoring autonomy and trust in our digital lives, empowering individuals and communities to connect without compromising their values or privacy."

A study by the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford finds that decentralised social media leads to citizen empowerment.

@newsmast Second coming of the 90s Usenet.
@newsmast Taking our power back. We have been giving our power away to platforms owned by companies that don't value freedom of speech like they claim they do. No more of that. The #fediverse is the future of freedom of speech and expression. A safe space for minority groups. Due to the absence of an algorithm, like other platforms have, it is way more work for bot farms to amplify posts. Engagement will be more organic, from a real person to a real person.
@newsmast "sparse content driven by relatively low numbers of users"
Are they kidding? I'm following too many users and hashtags to ever possibly keep up with all the posts. To me, Mastodon is a veritable flood of content. I will say that when I first tried Mastodon maybe 4 or 5 years ago, I found the content to be a trickle of weird and mostly foreign language posts so I gave up on it. The reason: I didn't understand what Mastodon was or how to set up my feed. I didn't understand that I was responsible for it. When I came back in 2022 I had that figured out in 5 minutes and set up a fantastically improved, non-algorithmic replacement for twitter. #Mastodon
