@catsalad I keep it closed in winter. I am the type of person who loves open windows. But I don't want the whole flat cold.
@catsalad i wonder what kind of expert specializes in bedroom door states
@toufy @catsalad apparently, the cat that wrote it. Cats want access to your room, the hallway, the front room, the kitchen… cats hate closed doors
@toufy @catsalad if we're going with the non-meme version, I'd expect this to be related to CO2 concentration in the bedroom. Anything other than that feels very much like a stretch but maybe I'm wrong
@GwenTheKween @catsalad maybe, but it's not like closing your bedroom door turns it into a vacuum chamber Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

@toufy @catsalad Fun fact, air doesn't change as quickly as we tend to think. If you are cooking by a gas stove, there is a noticeable increase in the concentration of CO2 around it, I can't remember exactly but I think it was 2-3x higher... though I got this from a youtube channel (and can't remember which anymore) so take it with a grain of salt

Anyway, yeah, even if my guess is 100% correct, the room isn't a vacuum chamber, and high concentrations of CO2 tend to make your ability to think rationally worse with no lasting consequence, so the article is a stretch anyway

@catsalad well obviously you keep the bedroom door open, unless you want to keep the cat's feeding bowls and water and it's litter tray in your bedroom.
What you do do is close the lid of your laptop when you go to sleep.
@catsalad Not just closed, locked.
@catsalad and then what? let someone mess with my computer? silently injecting malware and shit? nah, no way am gonna do that XD
@catsalad experts also state you should sleep with your front door open and your windows unlocked XD

@catsalad
@VVitchy

Umm... according to experts, sleeping with the door closed is how you avoid dying in a fire.

I have a cat door for my bedroom though.

@hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy We have these on a bunch of our doors for that very reason.

@m

@catsalad @VVitchy

Mine has a latchable flap.
I can set it full locked, or one way -

@hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy I wish ours had that! That would be useful.
@m @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy How hard are these to install? I bought a few but the Task feels overwhelming lol
@dramypsyd @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy Well, they aren't easy... the ones I have required taking the door off, using a jig saw to cut the hole based on a template, then put it in place and rehang the door.
@m @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy Ahhh I will have to enlist someone who is handier than I am!

@m

This just reinforces my belief that cats are too much effort.

Don't hate me.

@dramypsyd @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy

@401matthall @dramypsyd @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy I mean, they aren't and they aren't...

They take way less day to day effort than dogs, but occasionally require a lot more.

@m @dramypsyd @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy my dumb ass used a plunge router because that was the best tool I had to-hand and it needed to be done that day.

@c0dec0dec0de @dramypsyd @hellomiakoda @catsalad @VVitchy I just used a power jigsaw and went through all the layers at once.

It worked well considering the round shape of the ones I have. Although, now we are hoping to sell soon so I may have to replace the doors.

@m

@c0dec0dec0de @dramypsyd @catsalad @VVitchy

My doors are thin. Attempting to cut both layers together would have resulted in jagged breaks.

@dramypsyd

@m @catsalad @VVitchy

It was a pain. Some tips -
If you take the time to be careful, you can skip taking the door down if it's just a hollow core door.
I think the square ones are easier.
Avoid ones that cut the edge of the door on hollow doors!

Measure. Stick the frame of the cat door on the door. Trace the inner hole, and the outer border of the cat door frame.
Make sure all of your measured cut is going to be inside the car door frames edges, but bigger than the inner trace.

@dramypsyd

@m @catsalad @VVitchy

Drill at the 4 corners (you want all of the drill hole inside the measured part, right on the edge of the corner), going all the way through the hollow door.
But when cutting, just do one layer at a time. Trying to cut both layers of a hollow door in one shot will make it a pain.
Also, the inside is cardboard comb. It's easier to utility knife that part.

@catsalad πŸ˜‚ I wouldn't dream of it! ❀️ 🐾
@catsalad this post is attracting ad bots like crazy, makes me actually consider domain-blocking mastodon dot social...
