Reading about the state of science on standing desks. Most people just don't get a meaningful amount exercise from standing, so it doesn't help.

The standing desk thing strikes me as a classic example of prioritizing something that is only a correlate of the thing that is actually helpful (e.g. since exercise != sitting at a desk, we must therefore stand at desks & still not exercise)

(Now if only there were a way to get exercise at the desk while sitting down...)

@natematias To me burning calories is a red herring, confirmed by my Apple Watch telling me to “stand up” while I’m standing, since that feature is just a name tag on vigorous movement.

The benefit is ergonomic. Diversifying your work position avoids RSI based on constantly being in the same position.

The test isn’t weight loss, it’s avoiding the orthopedist.
