American healthcare is such a goddamned total failure at every level (this is my every 5 years MRI with PPO private insurance coverage that costs $1500/mo
@mathowie Well, at least you won’t have to pay for those pesky vaccines after January 20th.
@mathowie that doesn't seem outstanding at all

Any chance you could schedule the scan at an outpatient facility in 2029? Can be less expensive than at hospital

@mathowie

@mathowie you have a PPO? dang, lucky
@mathowie I’ve definitely heard OHSU MRIs are more expensive (my wife works at Doernbecher.) I’m guessing this is only 70% coverage after deductible was met? Fuuuuu…
@mathowie here in Switzerland, with what you pay monthly you'd have to pay up to ~300$ on your first bill in the year, and then (IIRC) 10% on subsequent bills until you've payed ~700$, afterwards insurance covers everything without contribution from your side.
@mathowie Here in BC (Canada), I honestly have never seen what anything from a hospital costs. That includes one month-long stay, and then the occasional cycling mishap ER visit. And of course all the regular checkups.
@mathowie THEM: But... but don't you see how much you're actually saving? *slides over an itemized bill with insanely inflated and unregulated made-up prices*
@mathowie My wife shops around and gets her MRI for $500.
