You don't want news. Want to waste time on gnarl. How about the 33 year old software package "James Gleick's Chaos: The Software," I wrote with Josh Gordon and John Walker at Autodesk. Free on Github, including manual. Runs on any platform inside free shell DOSBox. https://github.com/rudyrucker/chaos/

@rudytheelder I still love this program, even if I have trouble running it nowadays. I'd love if somebody could update it for modern graphics.
@rudytheelder omg ! I read the book cover-to-cover after I dropped too much acid at a hotel party and everyone fell asleep early. Absolutely loved it!
@rudytheelder Oh yeah, I remember it well. I inherited a copy as well as an 80-386 IBM PC when we lost my father, it was really nice to feel connected to some of his work in biomechanical modeling. Thank you for the book and helping to explain a complex subject to a young kid.
@rudytheelder
I drove a silly distance to get that when it came out! Still have it somewhere, but it's not so much fun as leaving , magnets I think it was, running over the weekend😀
@rudytheelder Neat! James is also on Mastodon, at @gleick

@rudytheelder I didn't know you wrote that code! I played with every one of those apps, over and over again, and Gleick's text and your software led me in to a whole world of beautiful complexity that I had never even imagined.

I *still* find myself explaining to entirely disinterested but tolerant fellow drinkers about strange attractors.

It was, sincerely, a joyful life-changing event, reading the book and fussing with the app.

@rudytheelder

You must know @gleick is on here and very popular? But maybe some who follow you and who will see this post don't know so I'll mention it.

:)

@rudytheelder Loved your Ware series. Good to see you on here.
@rudytheelder As a teenager I had this book! I did not know there was The Software! Thank you :)
@rudytheelder I shall try running that as well as fractint in a DOSbox later!
@rudytheelder Thanks for reminding me of the feeling of zooming in and out of the infinite gnarl.
@rudytheelder this looks like an incredibly radical SF novel
@rudytheelder @MishaVanMollusq
