This from BlueSky's @pfrazee.com remains one of my favorite posts on BlueSky. This is not a zero sum game and I am so excited by every sign of one of the decentralized baby turtles making it off the beach. Building an open social web is the future.

And I think each network can learn from and improve the others.

As things like @bsky.brid.gy bridge these networks, these just become one larger open social web. Just like different protocols for one email.

sure but this is the story of every startup gone evil.

@wjmaggos @tchambers @pfrazee.com @bsky.brid.gy But it's also the story of every startup ever, evil or not. Give them hell when they actually turn evil. Until then, at least give them a chance not to be. It's not like capitalism is going away any time soon, even if we'd like it to.

@moxiegrrl @tchambers @pfrazee.com @bsky.brid.gy

what startup took VC money, got big and didn't turn evil? Mastodon rocks and didn't take this path. If Musk wasn't being comically evil, there would be no interest in a decentralized alternative. If bluesky goes bad, they will keep it typical capitalist shit and I fear we'll never have this opportunity again. but yes, work with them with a back door in place.

Our goal should be to maximize interoperability between #ActivityPub and #ATproto. I have serious doubts about #bluesky but if it could feel seamless communicating between the two, we'd maximize our preparedness for any future #enshittifcation. And along the way, refusal to make this work will quickly expose any bad actors. #SocialWeb To start, let's build #bridgyfed into both apps and add a notification on both when your account is connected. Crazy I know but maybe even connect by default...

@wjmaggos @tchambers @pfrazee.com @bsky.brid.gy Well, yeah, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a "get the hell out of dodge" button. That's why I have an account, but I'm just testing the waters. I plan to stay skeptical, but they seem to be willing to listen and implement safeguards themselves so far, so what I'm saying is see how it goes.
