“Palestine, in this sense, is a mirror—revealing the rot at the heart of American liberal politics, a rot so deep that no amount of rhetoric can cover it … The reality is that Palestine did indeed cost the Democrats the election, though not in the crude, singular way that some might imagine … in Palestine’s fate, millions have glimpsed their own—a collective understanding that their cries for change, their demands for justice, would remain unanswered.”

Liberal guilt and Palestine

Palestine did cost the Democrats the election, though not how some imagine. In Palestine’s fate millions finally understood their calls for change would remain unanswered. In this, Palestine revealed the malaise and dissonance of the American empire.

@aral I wish I knew what Harris was thinking when she said she supported all of Biden's decisions instead of telling the people that are support of Israel through the delivery of bombs was wrong.
@daniele_Hesse @aral If I had to guess, I'd say she was probably thinking about the 10s of millions of dollars in campaign contributions that were riding on her answer. The policy positions of both major parties are the result of a private auction between the parties and their campaign donors.

@aral

Not sure I agree fully, but certainly more than 50% on board with this take.

@aral I've been thinking about that climate policy chart that went around last US election or the one before. The one where Democrats went "look how bad it will be under Trump" without ever acknowledging that the chart also showed their policy missing the target by a wide margin.
And that's how their policies show: no fixing it, only a slower doom.
I understand why people who know they will be left to die just opt out.
