#openstreetmap nerds, how do I add search keywords to a place? I've put the key info in a description tag, but there are a lot of synonyms I want to add.
@noodle don't do that, that's considered SPAM:

@eliasp Ok, how do I add synonyms to the open street map search algorithm?

Also I'm not sure that what you linked states it is spam. These are 'ground truths' that don't fit the 255 char description, but are important to searching behaving in a useful manner.

@noodle if a place as more than one name (e.g. the name locals use is different from the one on the sign), use alt_name:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:name#Multiple_names

But don't add random keywords just for searchability. #OoenStreetMap is not a search index for promoting content through shady practices, but instead a database reflecting ground truth - so everything that's added needs to be there in reality as physical item/data, signage of opening hours/contact data on the door/website, properties of a building, ...

@eliasp If a place does 4 things, and each service is known by 4 names, that doesn't easily fit in 255 characters when you also want to include a description.

I'm not sure how this is 'shady practices'.

@noodle OK, understood the problem:
Maybe you'll find something helpful here:

@eliasp
Is that just for name though? But that does help, thanks.

@eliasp Thanks very much! That looks like what I was after but couldn't find on the wiki. Will have a close look at the caveats before I change anything.
@noodle alternatively, split it up into 4 separate POIs?
@eliasp that feels more like spam as the ground truth is it is all one entity. But I'll bear it in mind.
@noodle That should be mapped as four separate POIs.
