Today we visited the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens on the edge of Melbourne. It is the first time we have visited them. We had a lovely, relaxing wander around. As it is spring, there were a lot of flowers, birds and bees.
This is a striking garden display that greets you as you come in the main entrance.

These striking tall flowers attracted birds and lots of bees. The gardens did not have enough plant labels so I cannot tell you the name of this grassy plant.
I don't know the name of the bird either. If you zoom in on the close-up of the flower you should see some bees.

This is a Queensland Bottle Tree which is found in dry areas of southern Queensland. It has spongy tissue inside which swells to absorb water. It grows 10-20 metres high and its canopy can grow 5-15 metres wide.
This tree was planted as a seedling in the 1970s in Kialla in northern Victoria. In 1990 there was a flood and it swelled so much that it threatened the footings of the home it was planted near. The owners of the tree donated it to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens.
