it's interesting to see that a bunch of tech twitter has just moved to bluesky. it feels completely different there than it did 3 weeks ago.

(please do not rant at me about why you think bsky is bad)

@b0rk The furries and journalists also seem to have moved over. I would have preferred they move here but it's a big improvement!
@b0rk the network effect matters! I just wish there was better federation between bluesky and the Fediverse.
@kajord yeah federation just seems like such a hard problem -- i've tried out bridgy fed but among other things so many posts get truncated because of the differences in character limits and it's just not a great experience
@b0rk yeah, I recently changed instances, with one of the driving factors in choosing a new one being able to use bridgy, but it is still disappointing.
@b0rk I鈥檓 at a tech event today & have had to download the bsky app because that鈥檚 where everyone is
@b0rk Perfect is the enemy of good!
@b0rk I see people created accounts. not much using it afterwards. which is on pair with every social platform I think

@b0rk Hurrah! I've been waiting for the Great Xodus. Hoping to reconnect with lots of folks.

Yeah, I'd rather they went here, but we still can't explain how the fedi works to newcomers.

@b0rk my complaint is personal, I've built up a really nice feed here on fedi, and I can't seem to match it there. Could have to do with my infrequent usage (chicken/egg problem), but reverse timeline in the app is also making me not care as much.
@b0rk
Ain't gonna rant. Seems like a net positive.

@b0rk My only complaint is that I have yet to find a workable client. Every one I've tried insists on pushing me to the most-recent post at the slightest excuse. I want to read things in order, dammit.

I say this here mainly to ask whether you experience the same problem and if so how you've dealt with it.

@oclsc no I have the exact same problem and it bothers me too
@b0rk @oclsc Wait, are there clients besides the official iOS app? It doesn't have a proper iPad version, which is a big reason I haven't used it much.
@waltman @b0rk I'm on Android, where the same problem obtains in the official app and every other I've tried. Wish I had the spoons to fetch an open-source one and hack it.
@b0rk @oclsc The Skeets iOS app does this, kind of. I find that if you go too long between refreshes though, it just starts at the latest skeet. I think it's an underlying issue with Bluesky itself, as this long-running feature request hints at: https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/issues/976. This is the number one feature that kept me using TweetBot for Twitter, prior to third-party API access being gated.
Add a "don't scroll with load new" option 路 Issue #976 路 bluesky-social/social-app

I like to pick up where i left off if I left app for a few hours. What I don't like is that the load new just auto scrolls to top, which then leaves me having to read in reverse until I "catch up" ...

@b0rk @oclsc Apparently it's a hard problem because of the protocol or API (I looked into the discussion around the bug some time ago) but they're working on it for the next major revision of the client. https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/issues/976 is the main issue; just scanned it and I don't see the comment about the reason but it's somewhere in incoming or outgoing links to that bug.

@b0rk I think it's bad they waited that long to switch out of twitter but better late than never I guess
@b0rk Congratulations to everyone closing the barn door now that the cows are all gone.
