More from Brad Mitchell at Mojohost:

"I want to ... reaffirm MojoHost’s unwavering support and commitment to your businesses.

First and foremost, I want to assure you that MojoHost remains steadfast in our dedication to supporting adult entertainment companies and protecting the principles of free expression. We recognize the challenges that can arise with evolving legislation and have seen recent movements, like state-level age verification mandates, that directly impact our space."

More from Brad Mitchell at Mojohost:

"While it is impossible to predict every outcome, we are confident that a full ban on adult content is unlikely to succeed. We continue to operate on this basis and, should legislative or executive action threaten the industry’s right to exist and serve its audiences, MojoHost stands prepared to maintain its role as a vigilant advocate. We are ready to challenge such decisions at the highest levels, if necessary."

Yes, this is an affiliate link. But you've been following me for two years now. You know I don't spam this thing. I believe I've posted it only twice before, both times in conversations about "where can I trust my host not to get squirrely about my pornz" conversations. A host you can trust not to go #pornocalypse on a random wednesday when they get accidentally acquired by an industrial adhesives conglomerate is truly a pearl beyond price.

@ErosBlog By any chance, do you know where to find the memory that their VPS packs have? I can’t seem to find that anywhere.

I’m a longtime Linode user but since 2022, when they were bought by Akamai, that I’m “waiting” for the day that my service there will be terminated.

@d1re_w0lf I don't know, sorry! But unlike most places, their contact form is not a black hole. If you ask, they'll make sure you get an answer: https://mojohost.com/contact-us/

@ErosBlog Thanks, I’ll try that.
@ErosBlog
May I ask what kind of services you have used with them (now or in the oast) ? (the specific name of the plan) Just curious.
@ErosBlog You know, I've actually considered leaning into this, setting up a website just to post smutty writing and queer stuff specifically as an act of visibility and rebellion. I was wondering about hosting, and this seems so solid. Thank you for the tip  ✨

@LaurenLeFey Lauren you're welcome! I don't think Mojohost is cheap (though it's been a long time since I had reason to look at competitors' pricing) but I literally get an anxiety reaction in the pit of my stomach any time I consider using a less-trusted host.

PS I think having your own website for this is a superbly good idea. It enables the POSSE publishing mode, the one Corey Doctorow at @pluralistic uses: https://indieweb.org/POSSE

And of course, there's my 1st rule:

https://www.erosblog.com/2013/06/11/bacchus-first-rule-of-the-internet/

POSSE

POSSE is an abbreviation for Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere, the practice of posting content on your own site first, then publishing copies or sharing links to third parties (like social media silos) with original post links to provide viewers a path to directly interacting with your content.

IndieWeb

@ErosBlog I was just looking at that! It is a bit steep for a website that will realistically draw basically no traffic, but I respect the philosophical stance so much and that has real value for exactly what I'd want to do, especially since so many other providers *already* don't want that kind of content.

(Also, that's actually a fantastic and detailed explanation of what I was thinking I'd do! I have stuff to think about  )

@ErosBlog
It's ironic how their terms of service forbids obscene and pornographic material. The same boilerplate every host has. I wonder if that's just a legal thing?

I've been using Dreamhost for years, which also allows adult content, but with the exact same boilerplate in their terms of service. But I have always had a default clean page just to be safe, no matter the host. I just link people to the real page.

But it's good to have another host I can add to my list, in case I need it.

@humbird0 The AUP (acceptable use policy) under "legal" at the bottom of their front page in paragraph 2 prohibits "child pornography, bestiality, nonconsensual sex acts, or any other obscene sex acts" as any US-based host must -- the illegal stuff. Legal-in-the-USA porn isn't prohibited. Perhaps you were looking at the "Website terms of use" document? That one does have the standard universal boilerplate, but it's not the one that governs what you can host with them.

@ErosBlog
Yeah I was just looking at the [website terms of use](https://mojohost.com/wp-content/uploads/legal/MojoHost%20Website%20Terms%20of%20Use.pdf). But what's the difference between one "terms" page and another "terms" page?

I know it's copy-pasted bullshit either way, and I know they have to include it to legally cover their butts. But I'm just curious what makes one more binding than the other one.

@humbird0 As I parse the fine print, it's the difference between "what can I put on the server that you lease to me" and "what can I type into any box or form on the Mojohost website." That last is boilerplate that every website has; even a porn-friendly web host is a professional workplace that prohibits you from putting goat.se jpgs into the billing support system when you're mad about the status of your account.

@ErosBlog
Mostly I just laugh at the low-effort copy-paste job. I often wonder if most web hosts even read their own terms? Especially when adult web hosts blindly include a "do not Promote sexually explicit or pornographic material". I can understand including the "no obscenity" part for legal reasons. Maybe "promote" has a specific legal meaning, but it just kind of looks like they forbid celebrating sexuality, which I find hilarious.

I'm sure they're a perfectly good web host.

@ErosBlog
Hmm... it's under the "User Contributions" section so maybe it's referring to email communications or something? I tend to think of the websites themselves as user contributions.

But maybe I'm just old fashioned and remember the days when websites were hand-made.
