Peejmaybe@Blerkotron I still never got round to playing this properly. It keeps bouncing off me but I'm determined to one day have the time to do it proper justice.
@peejmaybe I played it for over 200 hours, expansions included. One of my all time favourites, I never wanted it to end.
Bob@Blerkotron @peejmaybe I’ve started it on PS4, Switch, Series S and now on SteamDeck. Got the PS4 version (iirc) for free, Switch on sale and the last couple cost me next to nothing 😂. Extremely impressed with how it runs on deck once you select the dedicated setting. Perhaps I’ll finish it this time… it’s nearly 10 years old!
@murbs @Blerkotron OOOH you know, a Deck version might suit me better - I could chip away at it far easier tucked up at night with the deck than sitting for hours at a console. Hmmm, time to investigate

@murbs @Blerkotron Oh my, that needs doing then. It'll make a change to actually play something on the steam deck that I bought from the store :D
@peejmaybe @Blerkotron it doesn’t (at least it didn’t for me) auto select the steamdeck mode and it ran at seconds per frame rather than frames per second - but once selected it runs perfectly

@peejmaybe @Blerkotron that said I’ve just tried to run it to check and it’s not accepting Steam Deck controller inputs… bloody PC games 🤬
@murbs @peejmaybe ProtonDB recommends running the DX11 version rather than DX12, but doesn't mention controller issues. :-/
@Blerkotron @peejmaybe I’ve uninstalled and am now reinstalling at just over 10 Mbps. Going to take a while. We don’t have the quickest connection (peaks at mid-50s) but it should be faster than this!
@murbs @Blerkotron Trust me, your connection is way faster than mine. We're still on copper and it tops out at about 15mb if we're lucky :D I wouldn't mind but I'm not even in the middle of the sticks (I really ought to sack Plusnet and go with someone else)
@peejmaybe @Blerkotron yikes! There’s half an hour to go on the download 😂 but I’m grateful it’s not usually this slow. My mobile reception is quicker these days but sadly not unlimited.
I do remember downloading a hefty patch on the PS4 version of Witcher 3 that took 2 days to complete on my original broadband connection that topped out at 2 Mbps 😱

@murbs @peejmaybe Ah, the bad old days! And people moaned about loading from tape.
@Blerkotron @peejmaybe an old friend (and former Spectrum owner) bought an N64 instead of a PlayStation because he was put off by loading screens
@murbs @Blerkotron Oof. I remember that christmas, I was working in games retail when the PS1 and N64 went head to head. We just couldn't get Playstation stock for love nor money. We had a stock room FULL of N64s though :D
Jason Wilson@peejmaybe Hope he enjoyed the ridiculous prices of cartridges! Not that anything has really changed in the meantime for Nintendo pricing! I got a PS1 launch day from Toys 'R' Us with the "fantastic" Streetfighter The Movie game bundled with it. Loading times weren't its biggest problems!
@Whizzo Sony were just as evil back then. They insisted that shelf space was filled with display boxes for PS1s, even though there was no stock (as they were paying for that display space). So people would joyfully bring their boxes to the counter to pay, and be told there were no consoles. Lot of very upset people. At one point we had to have dedicated security on the door to stop fights breaking out. Crazy times.
@murbs @Blerkotron I think if there's one thing that's always driven me mad with the Steam Deck, it's the annoyance of getting controllers set up - particularly for emulation stuff, and it seems even worse when there's a dock / external controller in the mix too.
@peejmaybe @Blerkotron well, turns out I was having the same issue with everything bizarrely. I’ve put it down to having played it docked with a Stadia controller connected.

@Blerkotron @peejmaybe anyway, there is a steamdeck preset in the graphics options that still isn’t auto selected when you first launch (see? It was worth reinstalling to check 🤦♂️).

@murbs @Blerkotron I had real trouble actually finding it in the store but admittedly I realised I was looking on my Mac version of Steam rather than from the deck itself, so I'll have another go later. Got totally distracted by old Xbox 360 games again last night though the girls in the house keep complaining about the noise of the thing, which they can hear from downstairs :D
@peejmaybe @Blerkotron my daughter’s been playing RDR2 on my launch model PS4 - if it’s anything like that I’m not surprised 😂
@murbs @peejmaybe I've turned the 360 on a couple of times in the last year or so and it sounds like it's clockwork or something, proper grinding noises! My PS4 sounds like a jet engine. No idea how we used to put up with so much racket.
