I suppose it's possible to support a racist without being a racist -- one could rationalize that there are even more important issues weighing in.

But people who vote for a fascist who vows to be govern as one are not merely supporting an extreme right-wing dictator wannabe.

They are, for all practical purposes, fascists themselves.

Enough with rationalizations.

@dangillmor I read "They Thought They Were Free” this year--a post-WW2 study of civilians in Germany. It essentially describes exactly what you just said.
@dangillmor yes...it is the definition of unAmerican....and anti-American as well

@dangillmor I think about this often & believe that if you support Trump, there is something seriously wrong with you.

That leaves a few narrow paths for good people to support him. For example: if you are profoundly ignorant or chronically delusional to the point that you truly cannot comprehend the racism, misogyny, cruelty, criminality, treachery, greed, incompetence etc, it is entirely possible that you are still a good person & patriotic citizen. But that'd be the rarest of edge cases IMO.

@dangillmor Dear fellow Canadians, consider this if you are considering supporting Poilievre and the Cons. It’s not just voters in the USA who get to choose between fascism and its alternative.

#fascism #cdnpoli #canada

@dangillmor I like the logic.

Not very consistent @dangillmor . Someone who supports a racist must be in a small way racist. The question arises, what does that make someone who supports genocide (looking at Gaza here)?

@dangillmor

“one could rationalize that there are even more important issues weighing in.”

Like what?

@dangillmor Is it possible to support a Genocide, without being guilty of Genocide?
