Chris Hopkins@ollie @jztusk @TechConnectify he's done many posts on this. Very roughly: mastodon does not have the tools twitter providers invisibly that help people with large follower counts deal with the firehose that is online behaviour.
What makes it especially worse is the number of people who go "but it's not a problem for me" or "just ignore the trolls" or some other thing that demonstrates a lack of both empathy and reading comprehension.
