Relearning the joys and trials of #AmateurRadio right when solar weather is making propagation brutal.

And I hope to start a #BadIdeaSaturday project shortly based on my licenses.

Yes, licenses, plural. I’ve got a Canadian call sign and I’m restarting my American call sign.

Right now, I’m listening in on a science net where I’m connected from VE7 (BC, Canada) to K5 (Florida) over 2m.

Nice.

@Aphrodite hell yea hell yea. I just got the FT-920 out and need an excuse to set it up. for some reason I was trying super hard to get into 10m the last solar cycle
@Aphrodite also, does this mean that you can have an additional 2kW of output if you set up at, like, that library on the border

@amsomniac

OK THAT’S EXTREMELY CURSED AND I LOVE IT but it would be rather challenging to set up radio gear inside that library and it wouldn’t work like that (besides, 2m RF is very bad for the human body)

(Yes, I’ve been there. I went there a couple months ago.)

@amsomniac

I’ve just got a Quansheng UV-5R Plus that I picked up at a ham fest for CAD 15 and a tape measure yagi for 2m set up on a 2x4.

Just got a little 1:1 balun from the sewer river company that has two terminals to turn into a quick and easy dipole which I’m going to set up next.

@Aphrodite nice. I gave all my baofengs that weren't also phones away, but I could get on UHF right now. I'm gonna  repeaters in my area

@amsomniac

Dead honest I’m shocked at how well the tape measure yagi I made works.

I’m actually thinking if I can stack another yagi to receive ISS on the 2x4 I used…
