Sometimes I wonder when I’ve been closest to death.
Was it when I had Covid in February 2020?
Was it when I had surgery that lasted ten hours?
Was it when my spouse pulled me out of the ocean before the undertow of a wave took me?
Was it when I had a stalker?
Was it when I was in a car during a dangerous storm?

Or was it more impersonal, like unknowingly sharing the road with a drunk driver, being on a plane with mechanical issues, or in school w/a student who brought a gun?
