In Texas’ Third-Largest County, the Far Right’s Vision for Local Governing Has Come to Life

From cutting social services to changing election rules, Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare has pushed his agenda with an uncompromising approach. His term offers a rare look at what happens when hard-liners exert influence in a battleground county.

In 2022, O'Hare was backed by a coalition of far-right megadonors, pastors and churches. His top campaign donors included a PAC funded by #Christian nationalists Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks.

You may remember Dunn and WIlks from this story: https://www.propublica.org/article/tim-dunn-farris-wilks-texas-christian-nationalism-dominionism-elections-voting

A Pair of Billionaire Preachers Built the Most Powerful Political Machine in Texas. That’s Just the Start.

Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks are poised to take their Christian nationalist agenda nationwide.

@ProPublica "Billionaire preachers" shouldn't be a thing that exists.

A 10% tithe was established when the temple employed 10% of the people. It was explicitly just giving them an average income for the community.

A flock of 100k paying 10% to a televangelist with a paid crew of only a couple hundred people is just a pig butchering scam.

@ProPublica We know the numbers for Joel Osteen's church.
7 million followers worldwide
$76k USA median income (close enough for napkin math)
10% tithe = $53.4bn gross revenue
368 employees = $145m per person income

They sit just between United Airlines and Performance Food Group, they'd be number 84, if they were on the Forbes list.

Why aren't we taxing this megacorp pretending to be a nonprofit?

@ProPublica As always, thank you for the find reporting. We need to expose these hateful, racist pieces of shit for what they are.
