@TheWarOnCars "Paris is increasingly a city tailored for bobos – bourgeois-bohemians – affluent, left-leaning residents of central districts who can easily glide around by bike or metro." Wow, I thought my way too expensive car was fancy, but I should really be flaunting my transit card.
@TheWarOnCars "As Paris becomes a playground for the global elite and a nightmare for commuters, the city risks losing its soul – and its identity as a place for its own people." Removing space for the cars of people who live outside the city in favour of space for people who live in the city is losing it's identity as a place for it's own people?
@derrickb @TheWarOnCars I don't live in Paris but from now I will flaunt my 16 year old city bike like it's a brand new Porsche!
@derrickb @TheWarOnCars the global elite rides bicycles. Which if true raises the question: if the global elites are all powerful how come they can't make most major cities places you safety cross on a bicycle?
@TheWarOnCars you got namechecked three times! Awesome!

@TheWarOnCars Man, sure would be nice if there was any actual data in that article rather than a ranting diatribe.

What I see time and time again is "business owners claim bike lane/pedestrian project will ruin them" followed a year later by "sales are up".

@preinheimer @TheWarOnCars

And also, has the "journalist" ever tried parking in Washington DC, or Manhattan?

"Parking fees in Paris add further insult. In central Paris, larger vehicles like SUVs face a staggering £190 for parking over six hours. Even for smaller cars, a full day’s parking costs around £63."

These do not read expensive at all. Too cheap frankly, if discouraging drivers is the point.

@albertcardona @preinheimer @TheWarOnCars I think you’d be struggling to park in central Edinburgh for much less than £63 per day

@preinheimer @TheWarOnCars

Listen, if you go around deciding what is the best thing to do based on *evidence* that's just a slippery slope to radical socialism.

@TheWarOnCars "Driving through Paris now feels like being trapped in an endless traffic maze" Tell me you've never driven in Paris at any point in the past without telling me you've never driven in Paris. It's always been an absolute "what? Christ, don't, not if you value your sanity" situation, with or without Hidalgo.

Also, love the giant, suspiciously covid-shaped hole in the explanation why so many shops on (famously touristy) Rivoli have closed since 2020

@TheWarOnCars "According to the local business association, more than 40 shops have closed along Rue de Rivoli since the changes were made, as the lack of car access has driven away shoppers. The association has warned that these closures are a direct result of reduced accessibility, leading to deserted storefronts and struggling businesses." [citation needed]
@TheWarOnCars Ah I see, this piece is actually an argument for more transit! Kudos.
@Andres4NY @TheWarOnCars The only time right-wing weirdos argue for public transport is when it can thwart a cycling provision, and likewise the only time they think of people cycling is when trying to remove public transport provision.
@TheWarOnCars took me a minute to realize they were trying to say this was a bad thing.
@TheWarOnCars I remember driving on the peripherique when going on holidays forty years ago. I'm pretty sure we never went more than 30 kph (let alone 30 mph).
@TheWarOnCars they probably never drove the Peripherique before the official speed reduction. In my experience, speed was always down to 30mph (or less), regardless of time of the day. (Ok, only drove the Peripherique less than a handful of times, and always as a tourist 🫣)
@TheWarOnCars I appreciate the satire. I need to move there.
@TheWarOnCars if it's in the Spectator you know for certain it's false.
@TheWarOnCars Not too surprised after The Spectator's new ownership https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn8l35xl1l2o
GB News owner Sir Paul Marshall buys Spectator magazine for £100m

The right-leaning political magazine has been sold to the hedge fund tycoon Sir Paul Marshall.

@TheWarOnCars
Shitty article completely missing the point. And hiding half the truth.

@TheWarOnCars "Public transport doesn’t reach many parts of the outer suburbs, leaving these residents with no real alternative but to drive."

...you had me at outer suburbs—there can be no consequences when I put an unmanageable distance between myself and my necessities... I'm not coming back from the moon just bc y'all stopped shipping me oxygen for free. My blood is on your hands, commies. I love the free market.
