Finally got to play my first #FourAgainstDarkness game, what a mess, I forgot to add defense bonuses for shield and armor but still managed to get out of the dungeon with most of the party alive — only the rogue died. Being a stickler I started from scratch trying to better follow the rules for the next game, the results? I failed to save versus a Medusa's gaze and my whole party perished...

Here's the 2nd dungeon, I didn't have graph paper so I draw my dungeon using a website ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This was way more fun than I anticipated, I honestly thought that playing this stuff by myself was going to be sad (LOL) but it wasn't, in fact the time flew — first game was around one hour and half.

I already got a graph paper notebook, I'll play this thing until I get sick of it, LOL.

I don't think the book is well edited, there's a lot of stuff that is 1) up for interpretation, or 2) straight up unclear, but I'm not gonna hold that against the game, I think it's a good introduction to #TTRPG, someone even said Four Against Darkness is more like a board game and I have to agree.
@maxalmonte14 you're lucky you missed out on 3) straight up contradictory. 😅
Not saying all TTRPG rulebooks are like that, but I ran across some things that were described in a half sentence in multiple places.
I'm actually not even convinced that's a bad thing. It's super confusing at first, but part of the fun is making your own house rules. I like making a ruling and figuring out "good enough". I find that even helps me in real life. 😅
@mforester oh I don't think I missed out on that, I just forgot to mention it hahaha. One notable example is when rolling to determine what happens after generating a room, one of the outcomes is "roll on the vermin table, if win roll on the treasure table", fair enough, then you go to the vermin table and discover you rolled a monster that has no treasure, does that mean no treasure except when generating a room or no treasure ever? There's other contradictory stuff here and there.
@mforester I don't mind making a judgement call and instituting house rules but as I said I'm kind of a stickler, I consider the clearer and easier to follow the rules the better 😅
