I have an ostomy and I'm proud of it! My permanent ileostomy gave me the life I had been missing out on for years. #OstomyAwarenessDay #OstomiesAreLifesavers #OstomyDay2024 #IAmLivingProof

@geerlingguy like @shanselman said about T1D, “everybody’s got a thing.”

My thing is being visually impaired (I can’t read the T-shirt, by the way, and would appreciate alt text) and learning about and being around people like me who are smashing all kinds of metrics of success has been its own kind of lifesaver.

I know you didn’t have to talk about any of this, but I know doing it is so important.

People’s attitudes towards things like white cane and wheelchairs are often focused on the limitations that cause us to use them, not on the opportunities that they provide and the way they make people’s lives better. So framing your ostomy that way is super important and thoughtful.
