@geerlingguy I love your contagious joy whenever you mention your surgery! It is so great we have the technology to get a life worth living out of that situation. Imagine this just some decades ago...
(Temporary ileostomy here, but second time, so let's see how temporary it'll be)
@geerlingguy like @shanselman said about T1D, “everybody’s got a thing.”
My thing is being visually impaired (I can’t read the T-shirt, by the way, and would appreciate alt text) and learning about and being around people like me who are smashing all kinds of metrics of success has been its own kind of lifesaver.
I know you didn’t have to talk about any of this, but I know doing it is so important.
People’s attitudes towards things like white cane and wheelchairs are often focused on the limitations that cause us to use them, not on the opportunities that they provide and the way they make people’s lives better. So framing your ostomy that way is super important and thoughtful.
@geerlingguy Yup. I've learned what ileostomies are and been helping to manage one up close and personal for the past 6 months.
I usually don't like to have my awareness raised (it's fine right where it its), but this one matters. A literal lifesaver.
